|
Io, like Venus is a medieval vision of hell, lying in the deadly sphere of the Jupiter's radiation, where one metre of lead would be a barely acceptable shield for humans. A gravitational resonance between all three of Io, Europa and Ganymede causes the whole body of Io to flex and the resulting friction produces heat, melting its silicate interior and producing spectacular volcanic eruption of sulphur. |
